Ashgrove Announces....
From Room 5
In the month of December, Jakoba shared a sad story with our class about a family friend's
six year old son who passed away from Mitochondrial Disease. Jakoba took the initiative to ask me if we could try and
raise money in the classroom for the SickKids Foundation. As a class we discussed what we could do to raise money.
It was decided that selling cookies was the best way to raise money. The class got to work making posters to hang in
all the classrooms to remind students of the cookie sale and the good cause that we were raising money for. Once the
posters were finished, Jakoba and Kiran delivered the posters to all the classrooms and Jakoba shared a picture of the little
boy who had passed away and explained why she wanted to raise the money. Every experience, whether it be sad or happy
lends itself to great life-long teaching moments. A donation of $186.15 was sent to the SickKids Foundation
on behalf of Ashgrove P.S. This was a wonderful example of how a little voice can make a huge difference in the world.
